TotalEnergies has announced the successful restart of gas production at the Tyra hub in the Danish North Sea following a significant redevelopment project.
The Tyra hub, operated by TotalEnergies on behalf of the Danish Underground Consortium (DUC), is expected to reach a production plateau of 5.7 million cubic metres of gas and 22,000 barrels of condensate per day.

DUC is a partnership between BlueNord (36.8%), TotalEnergies (43.2%) and Nordsøfonden (20%).
Discovered in 1968 and situated 225km west of Esbjerg, the Tyra field was redeveloped after gas production was halted in September 2019 to facilitate the progression of the redevelopment project.
The project involved the decommissioning of the old Tyra facilities and the installation of eight new platform topsides, two jackets and six bridges.

The redevelopment has been notable for its sustainability efforts, with 98.5% of the materials from the retired installations being reused or recycled.

By GlobalDataTotalEnergies exploration & production president Nicolas Terraz said: “The new Tyra leverages state-of-the-art digital solutions and technological innovations to produce more efficiently and with 30% lower greenhouse gas emissions than the former facilities.
“Importantly, the resumption of gas production from Tyra improves Europe’s security of supply.”
The gas from the Tyra hub is transported to Nybro, Denmark, and Den Helder in the Netherlands via two export pipelines.
BlueNord chief operating officer Marianne Eide said: “Focus is now on bringing the Tyra fields and satellites Valdemar, Roar, Harald and Svend on production through one of the most advanced and efficient offshore gas installations in the world.”
BlueNord CEO Euan Shirlaw said: “With a ramp-up that is expected to last four months, Tyra will shortly be a key supporter of energy security in the region, transforming Denmark from a net importer to a net exporter of natural gas and supporting the European Union in a manner that compares favourably to imported LNG [liquefied natural gas].”
