Venture Global has announced it has completed the raising of the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tank roof at its Calcasieu Pass LNG export facility in Louisiana, US.

The Calcasieu Pass LNG export facility is located in Cameron Parish of Louisiana and is being developed by Venture Global LNG subsidiary Venture Global Calcasieu Pass.

Venture Global noted that the 1.8 million pound tank dome and assembly were air raised to allow better and safer access, and for a faster construction schedule.

McDermott International division CB&I Storage Tank Solutions is constructing the LNG project’s dual 200,000m³ tanks. The dome of the tank was raised in less than two hours using pressure of 0.25psi.

The ten million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) Calcasieu Pass LNG project deploys a process solution from Baker Hughes that utilises mid-scale, modular liquefaction trains. These LNG trains are factory-fabricated in Italy.

Last August, Venture Global awarded a contract to Baker Hughes to provide this comprehensive LNG technology solution for the Calcasieu Pass project.

Weeks Marine and the project’s engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) contractor Kiewit worked together to complete the export facility’s marine perimeter wall and levee three months ahead of the schedule.

According to Venture Global, equipment for the project’s 720MW combined cycle gas turbine power plant is expected to start arriving next month.

Earlier this month, Baker Hughes successfully completed a string test of a mixed refrigerant compression system of the Calcasieu Pass project.

In July last year, Calcasieu Pass LNG construction financing received more than $10bn in binding commitments from initial coordinating lead arrangers.
