Finnish technology group Wärtsilä has entered into a five-year maintenance and support agreement with Greece-based TMS Cardiff Gas covering two recently delivered liquefied natural gas carriers (LNGC).

The agreement applies to the 174,000m³ Al Thurayya and Al Majhoulah LNGCs, which have entered service under TMS Cardiff Gas’ fleet expansion programme.

Wärtsilä recorded the order during the third quarter of 2026.

Under the contract, Wärtsilä will provide Dynamic Maintenance Planning, a service intended to schedule maintenance work according to vessel operating requirements.

The arrangement also includes the company’s Expert Insight predictive maintenance service, contract management and 24-hour remote operational support.

Wärtsilä stated that Expert Insight uses real-time operating information to recognise potential equipment issues before they develop into problems.

The service agreement is intended to support vessel availability through maintenance planning, technical assistance and monitoring.

Both vessels are fitted with two WinGD 5X72DF two-stroke main engines, four Wärtsilä 34DF auxiliary engines and Wärtsilä gas valve units.

Wärtsilä said the maintenance planning element could allow for more flexible service schedules, longer maintenance intervals and lower spare parts utilisation.

TMS Cardiff Gas deputy chief operating officer Alexandros Politis-Kalenteris said: “There is increasing global demand for LNG, and carrier operators place a high value on reliability. This is why this agreement with Wärtsilä is important to us.

“The existing agreement covering other vessels in our fleet has delivered a successful combination of technology, high-quality spare parts support and expert services, helping us maintain reliable and efficient operations.

“Extending this collaboration to these two newbuild vessels supports our goal of maximising availability and operational performance across the fleet.”

The new contract follows the 2025 renewal of an agreement comprising seven vessels in the TMS Cardiff Gas fleet.

TMS Cardiff Gas is part of TMS, which manages more than 140 vessels across LNG, oil tanker, liquefied petroleum gas, dry bulk and container shipping. The gas carrier operator also uses the Wärtsilä Fleet Optimisation Solution across its wider fleet.

According to Wärtsilä, the digital platform combines performance analysis, voyage planning, real-time operational information and compliance management.
