Solving the Cause, Not the Problem: The evolution of SafeGlo™
Every product has a starting point. For us, the journey to developing the SafeGlo™ Series began long before we entered the explosion-proof lighting market.
When CLEAR Lighting was founded in 2000, our focus was on architectural and decorative lighting. As LED technology matured, so did our product range, expanding into flexible lighting solutions designed for greater durability, performance and reliability across commercial applications.
As our customers’ requirements evolved, so did our research and development. By 2010, we had begun exploring lighting solutions for industrial environments where conventional products often struggled to meet the practical demands of installation, maintenance and long-term operation.
That work led us to a question that shaped the development of SafeGlo™: could explosion-proof lighting be designed differently?
Our research identified opportunities to improve the way hazardous areas are illuminated, particularly in long, confined or complex spaces where traditional rigid luminaires can be difficult to install and may not always provide consistent coverage. Rather than adapting existing designs, we set out to develop a flexible lighting platform built specifically for these environments.
The result was the SafeGlo™ Series – a flexible explosion-proof LED lighting solution developed to provide reliable illumination while simplifying installation and reducing ongoing maintenance.
In 2019, SafeGlo™ became the world’s first flexible explosion-proof lighting solution to achieve ATEX, IECEx and ETL certification. Since then, the product has been deployed across industries including oil and gas, mining, chemical processing, energy, food production, agriculture and aerospace, where dependable lighting is essential to safe and efficient operations.
Along with performance, sustainability has remained an important focus throughout our product development. We were the first manufacturer in the LED flex neon lighting sector to achieve Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification across our product range, reflecting our commitment to independently verified environmental performance.
Today, the SafeGlo™ Series is available in a range of configurations, with options for customised lengths, brightness levels and colour temperatures to suit different applications. Its flexible construction allows it to be installed in locations where traditional explosion-proof fittings may be impractical, while providing continuous, targeted illumination where it is needed most.
