The SharpEye 40/40M Multi IR Flame Detector is unique in being able to simultaneously detect both hydrogen and hydrocarbon flames.

Each type of flame has its own spectral fingerprint, which allows for the highest reliability.

This permits one type of detector to be installed for excellent flame detection in areas where hydrogen flames are a possibility, without missing hydrocarbon flames.

The 40/40M is able to detect hydrocarbon flames at up to 215ft (65m) and hydrogen flames at up to 125ft (38m), with the highest immunity to false alarms.

It retains all the benefits of the SharpEye 40/40 range, including high-immunity to false alarm and a wide range of approvals such as ATEX, IECEx, FM, SIL2 and many more.

Spectrex is a technology leader in optical flame and open path gas detection (OPGD).

The firm’s patented optical UV/IR and IR3 flame detector designs, and pioneering patented Xenon Flash designs in open path gas detectors) detectors are now the standard for oil and gas products.

A wide range of flame detectors are available, from ultra-fast (msec) detection time to high-sensitivity hydrocarbon and hydrogen flame detection, alongside the equally large OPGD range that can detect hazardous gases, from flammable hydrocarbons to toxic ammonia and hydrogen sulfide.

All Spectrex products can operate in the toughest conditions, from African deserts to Alaskan waters and are fully approved to meet relevant third-party EX-hazardous areas, performance and reliability standards to the wide range of application challenges worldwide.
