Interpipe has announced that it will sell steel billets produced by Interpipe Steel’s electric steel-melting complex.

Commissioned in 2012, the innovative mill produces round, continuously cast billets for pipes and wheels ranging from 150mm to 470mm in diameter. The Interpipe Steel production range includes major carbon and alloyed steel grades for pipe products such as steel grades Х42 to Х80 and H40 to Q125, as well as transport steel ER6, ER7, ER8, ER9 and analogues. The mill is also currently mastering steel grades A350 LF2 and 42CrMo4 for production of flanges and rings.

The mill has already shipped trial lots of ER7 steel grade billets to leading manufacturers of railway products in Spain, the Czech Republic and Germany, and EA1N and ОС steel grade billets for a Ukrainian axle producer. Interpipe’s pipe and wheel production facilities are also major consumers of Interpipe Steel products.

Interpipe chief commercial officer Fadi Hraibe said: "Interpipe Steel is now reaching its designed production rates and can not only provide high-quality steel billets to the company’s production facilities, but can also start deliveries to other customers. Mastering the steel billet market is a key ambition for our Company’s development."

In June, Interpipe Steel melted its one millionth tonne of steel billets. The mill’s total production in the first nine months of 2013 reached approximately 900,000t of steel.
