Petrel Engineering (Pty) Ltd is recognised globally as a designer and manufacturer of cranes, winches, lifting equipment and other deck machinery for the offshore oil and gas, diamond mining, shipping, fishing and wider marine industries. Petrel's standard products can be custom-designed to clients' requirements. Electrical, hydraulic and remote control systems can be used in conjunction with all our products.

MARINE CRANES FOR OFFSHORE APPLICATIONS

Designed to operate in the roughest sea conditions and all offshore activities, Petrel's marine fixed and knuckle boom cranes are fitted with reliable over-size slew bearings and high-specification slew motors. The crane structure is based on classification society requirements and is tested to over-load conditions prior to delivery.

Petrel's marine cranes feature booms fitted with large section box structures and wide pivot pin locations to give a steady and rigid working platform. Integral counter balance valves in the hydraulic cylinders hold the crane in position in the event of a vessel hydraulic failure, and give smooth controllled mostion in all positions. Hydraulic and electrical connections to the crane run through a high pressure rotatary coupling allowing 360° unlimited slewing.

A compact planetary drive winch is fitted with suitable wire rope and a weighted swivel hook. The entire crane structure is shot-blasted, metalised and painted with a high specification marine coating system prior to assembly.

The Petrel standard crane range is from 10t-meters to 120t-metres, but we also supply larger custom-built cranes. Our cranes are specifically designed for marine environment applications and shipboard operations for sea conditions. Specified duty (offshore) cranes are designed according to customer requirements.

ELECTRIC-HYDRAULIC POWER PACKS

These are available for all Petrel's marine crane models as separate standalone units, or incorporated into the pedestals of cranes 20t-meter upwards. Optional secondary winches are available (1.8t to 5t). Further options are available, such as remote control, enclosed cabin, stainless steel piping and cylinder rods and different mast heights.

BOAT DAVIT CRANES

Petrel supplies boat davit cranes to SOLAS requirements for 1.5t SWL and larger models up to 10t SWL. Davit cranes can be supplied with high-speed autotensioning and anti-pendulation heads for safe boat handling in extreme conditions.

MARINE WINCHES FOR OFFSHORE APPLICATIONS

The extensive Petrel hydraulically driven winch range caters for most hauling needs. The winch range includes boom, general purpose, cargo, mooring, towline and anchor winches, with or without guiding gear.

The new Petrel winches offer low maintenance features (including self-lubrication in the larger models). The range accommodates pulls from 3t to 50t. Above 50t pull, winches are built to customer specifications.

The entire winch structure is shot-blasted, metalised and painted with a high specification marine coating system prior to assembly. Hydraulic powerpacks and control gear can be part of the supply.

Petrel offers complete package solutions including automatic controls, length and tension readout, fairleads, hydraulic poer packs and control valves for a variety of applications including mooring systems.

AIR WINCHES

Petrel are suppliers of an air winch series which increases performance, superrior load and control and industry proven reliability. These winched are frequently used in the petro chemical industry for general cargo handling in a hazardous environment.

MARINE LIFTING EQUIPMENT FOR OFFSHORE APPLICATIONS

Petrel has custom-designed and manufactured a wide range of lifting devices for various offshore operations. Depending on the customer's requirements and duties (operating in various sea states, swell compensation, man riding units, retrieval of ROVs and lowering / raising scientific instruments) different solutions are available. Units, if required, are designed and manufactured to class approval.

HOSE REELS

Petrel can supply hose and cable reels for hydraulic hoses, electric and umbilical, cables, using Petrel's own custom manufactured multiway fluid and electrical rotary couplings. Designs can be customised according to customer requirements.
