Putzmeister - Pumps For Conveying Concrete, Mortar And High-Density SolidsPutzmeister (PM) pumps, for more than 40 years, have been well known worldwide for conveying concrete, mortar and high-density solids in the offshore industry. Putzmeister Systems Engineering (PAT), a division of Putzmeister AG (Germany), specialises in providing solutions for pumping a wide range of different materials for it's customers, for example drill cuttings, slurries, fluids, fine-grain high density solids, tailings, fly ash, lime slurry, coal paste, sewage sludge from presses and centrifuges, water sludges, bio-waste, hazardous waste, compost, muck out of tunnels and concrete. HIGH DENSITY SOLIDS PUMPS FOR OFFSHORE APPLICATIONSFor offshore applications PM piston pumps are used to convey drill cuttings from shale shakers into big-bags or supply boats. Another application is to re-inject the drill cuttings into a shutdown borehole after treatment in a slurryfication plant. On most of the oilrigs the explosion proofed KOS pumps are operated with outputs to a maximum 75m³/h. Hydraulic power can be supplied either from a separate power pack (located within or outside explosion protected areas) or from a central hydraulic power supply system on the rig. The drill cutting (or slurries resp fluids) is pumped through a closed pipe system (often 100mm - 150mm in diameter) from the plant. The pipes can easily be adapted to any space condition, i.e. by using 90° elbows, which can also be installed vertically. OFFSHORE TREATED DRILL CUTTINGSPutzmeister KOS pumps often replace traditional, bulky auger driven conveyors which are not leak-proof to their surroundings nor flexible enough to be operated in the confined spaces found on oil and gas rigs. The Putzmeister high-density solids pumps also operate onshore, for example conveying treated drill cuttings to an environmentally friendly storage area. Depending on the high-density solids content and the amount of material to be conveyed, Putzmeister twin cylinder piston pumps can be combined with different heads, varying cylinder diameters and stroke lengths. Pump outputs can reach a maximum 500m³/h (2,200 US gal pm) resp, with pumping pressures up to 150bar (2,175psi) achievable. When pumping thick or stiff materials it is often found that they cannot be sucked-in by the pump pistons alone. When faced with these materials special THS double-auger feeding devices are available. The self-cleaning augers guarantee optimum filling of the pumps' delivery cylinders allowing high volumetric efficiency. CONCRETE PUMPS AND PLACING BOOMS FOR THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRYMore widespread than it's range of high-density solids are the company's core products of concrete pumps, concrete placing booms and mechanical concrete distributors. The Putzmeister pumping and placing equipment is used worldwide for conveying concrete over long distances and extreme heights. Different types of these pumps and placing booms have been used when large volumes of concrete have been placed, constructing operation platforms and so called 'breakwaters' to protect gas and oil tanks settled on the seabed. PM concrete pumps reach up to 200m²/h output. For placing concrete Putzmeister offers flexible, multi-section placing booms with a horizontal reach from 16m to 50m. Mechanical PM concrete distributors are available with 7m to 22m working range. PUMP DELIVERY PROGRAMThe Putzmeister group consists of 16 companies, which achieved consolidated sales of €445.4 million in 2002 and employed 2,001 people. With a consolidated network of daughter companies, subsidiaries and service outlets, Putzmeister AG is well represented worldwide and very close to it's widely varying markets. The delivery program comprises:
