In recent tests WIB (Working Party on Instrument Behavior), wanted to investigate if guided radar technology is actually a simple and reliable technology to replace expensive and high maintenance intensive displacer type of measurements in by-passes or sight gauges.

Tests were performed on test a rig with multiple by-passes (bridles) at Dow Terneuzen in the Netherlands. Several main suppliers of guided radar instruments participated: two German, two American and Endress+Hauser.

Levelflex from Endress+Hauser was one of the top performers in these tests. The test team was impressed that Endress+Hauser could measure low dielectric constant fluids with a single rod, without the need for a coax probes. WIB also highlighted the end-of-probe algorithm of the Endress+Hauser device which provided excellent results in demanding applications with low DC fluids.

WIB is an international initiative comprising large end users such as Dow, Heineken DSM, Shell, DuPont as well as instrument manufacturers, which tests instrumentation under process conditions. They provide an independent report that an instrument meets suppliers´ claimed specifications and often test a specific group of instruments from various suppliers to compare performance.
