Granberg AS, based in Vindafjord, Norway, has won the international industrial design award Red Dot Award 2015 for two of its protective gloves in the new Granberg 9000 series of impact-resistant and cut-resistant gloves.

"This award is a seal of quality and recognition of the research and development we have been focusing on in recent years, and it will have a very positive impact on our future commitment to product development," says Ole Marthon Granberg, CEO of Granberg AS.

"I am proud of what our product team, headed by designer and assistant professor Virginius Urbelis, has achieved through innovation and thinking outside the box."

During the 60-year history of the award there have never been more competition entries. Of the 4,958 teams from 56 countries Granberg AS won the ‘Safety Clothing’ category in product design.

The work gloves from Granberg AS are designed for extreme working conditions with high-risk of cuts and crush injuries, for instance in the oil and gas industry, mining operations and other heavy industry. The gloves provide high-cut protection in the palm area and on the cuffs and contain impact-reducing elements on the back.

"Although the gloves are designed to provide a high level of protection, they are still soft and comfortable, and it is the combination of these properties that make them particularly suitable for use in extreme working conditions," Granberg adds.

"Today design is more important than ever, and to gain an edge in the protective product market, we have spent a great amount of hours in developing the finished product. That is why this confirmation by the 38 experienced members of the Red Dot jury is so valuable to us at Granberg AS."

Granberg AS has been manufacturing work gloves since 1961. The production started at Granberg AS’ facilities in Bjoa, Norway, where the company now has its head office and warehouse. Apart from sales in Norway, in 2007 Granberg AS established a subsidiary in Sweden, which is responsible for sales and distribution in the EU. Granberg AS has annual revenue of NKr200 m and supplies work gloves to several continents.
